Being Sure about Teachings

People choose a church to attend for a lot of different reasons. We very much want you to call Faith Lutheran your church home, but we want that to be for one reason. God calls on us to examine what a church teaches to make sure that it lines up with what the Bible teaches.

We'd like to set before you what we believe to be the truth from God's Word. Just as it happened in Berea, we would like to invite you to see if what we're teaching lines up with what God says in his Word. It does take a little time to do so, but time spent in God's Word is always time well spent. And when it ends up happening that people find that what we're teaching lines up with what the Bible teaches, then we have a solid basis for gathering together around God's Word, so that our faith is fed and so that, together, we can work on the things that Jesus would have us be doing in a Christian congregation.

Let's Be Sure!

Faith Builders Class

What's the class like?

Chapters:

1 - Sin
2 - Grace
3 - Faith
4 - Works
5 - Knowledge of God; Trinity
6 - Person of Jesus Christ
7 - Baptism
8 - Lord's Supper
During an eight-lesson course, typically one lesson per week, we can't really cover all the main teachings of the Bible. But we can take a good look at the essentials of the Christian faith.

People who take Faith Builders are welcome to ask as many questions as they like, or to ask none and just soak it all in.  Questions and conversations can always be pursued "offline," for any matters that might better be discussed privately than in a class setting.

After covering the eight lessons, there is always opportunity to meet with the pastor to discuss any teachings or matters that did not come up during the course. There is no obligation to join the congregation after taking the class. We would be thrilled if you found yourself in agreement with the teachings of our Lutheran church and would want to be a member of Faith Lutheran.

Scheduling

There are two things that have always held true about the Faith Builders class...

First, teaching this class is one of the pastor's favorite things to do. While the content remains the same each time, the different questions from different individuals who take the class (both church members and those looking for a church home) make each session unique. It's also a great way for those attending the class to get to know each other better.

Second, scheduling this class happens in all kinds of ways. Sometimes it's a regular weeknight, sometimes it's on Sundays after the second service, sometimes it's in people's homes on an as-scheduled basis. Sometimes it's even covering a make-up lesson by FaceTime when the person taking the class could be virtually anywhere. Getting through these lessons is a high priority for any pastor who is serving at Faith Lutheran. God's Word brings comfort to the soul but it also brings people together. Faith Builders is the primary path to communicant membership at Faith for those who wish to join the congregation.
